My little learners have various developmental delays. They learn differently than their peers, but they can learn and that is what makes my job so important. I believe that children should be taught in the way they learn. Our classroom is blessed with many supplies, however those supplies are missing the hands on abilities that manipulatives such as the phonics materials can provide. My students often need to see and touch objects to help them remain focused and provide them with a sensory input to help them connect what they are learning as the process. Learning to read with these hands on supports with enhance their learning regardless of their delays.
In my 11 years of teaching students with varying exceptionalities have seen the best of students with access to materials to aide in their learning!
