Our district has adopted a structured learning time called pan-do-review. This developmentally appropriate learning time allows students to plan, carry them out, and reflect on what they have done. Rich conversation, problem-solving, and creativity are some of the areas that students grow during this time. I hoping to add some science-based activities to my centers to help my students continue to grow.
Having a rug that allows for successful circle time is a critical component of a successful lesson. Circle time is a time where students learn to listen, sit, and participate in lessons. This will allow them to be successful as they continue their academic journey. Having a rug that is bright and colorful, allows students to have their own designated spot, and promoting color and shape recognition is key. I plan to have a bucket with shapes and colors each day. As the student come to the carpet they will choose one. Once they identify the color and shape that will be their spot on the carpet for the day. This allows students to continue to recognize different colors and numbers while becoming familiar with changes.
