These magazine subscriptions will give students accessible reading to turn to many times throughout the year. At times there will be sustained silent reading when a student may not have a novel to read. They may be researching a particular topic that the magazine addresses. The student may finish work before others and need some interesting enrichment reading.
These magazines address issues that are important to students' understanding of their own and others' experience of the world. Many of my students are English language learners who will benefit from having the high-interest reading material at a level that they can comfortably access. They gain confidence when they do not have to struggle to read, and the topics give them a broader view of the world.
