Children with severe motor disabilities have difficulty in playing creatively & actively, as they are not able to move by themselves. The degree of difficulty is dependent upon the individual disability and on what steps have been taken to support the child's motor development. My students are often in a situation where they would like to, but are not able to play, which in the long run often results in passivity.
In my classroom, I find that it's not the disability per se which is the greatest obstacle to play, but rather the lack of accessible toys.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student participation through play, you will ultimately help increase their academic achievement. Learning in Preschool is play based. Each item chosen for this project can be activated by a switch or has a light based component that will stimulate children to move at their own initiative. Additionally, the light-based items will support children who have Visual Impairments as they work and play in our classroom.
