My kids lack resources in a lot of different areas. In the classroom, most of them struggle with math skills that have been taught to them over their middle school and some high school years. I constantly hear stories of how their teachers left in the middle of the school year or how they struggled to comprehend the skills that were taught. My class focuses on math ACT skills that are tested. Our goal as a school is to have 90% or greater of our students scoring 21 or higher on the ACT test.
Although the skills are an important part of the ACT test, timing is everything. I want my students to become aware of how time flies when you're having fun or even when a task needs to be completed in a timely manner.
Not only do I want them to be aware of time, I want visual aids to be posted at all times. Even when they have drifted off into a daze or stare, aids will be in eyesight where they will have no other choice but to remember the formulas and charts needed for the test. Helping them to score higher and at the same time lowering their need for student loan debts.
