The sensory items provide physical input for the student to help calm and destress. Some like different textures, some like visual repetitive movement, and some like working on a mindful task such as coloring. It's my first year in the district and as you can see from my picture, my office came pretty bare with no allocated budget. The posters will be a start to help make it more welcoming while supporting our focus on kindness, positive thinking, and responsibility.
With a friendly environment and something stimulating to the senses, students often are better able to open up about their struggles and problem solve with me.
The intervention books and games will help me to use proven methods to teach students how to manage their minds. The stories are powerful learning tools to help students learn new skills by showing them context in a relatable way. These things will be used with individual students as well as small groups.
