Students are more engaged when they can relate to what they are learning or texts that they are engaging with.
We use our books to write character analyses, retells, and as inspiration for our writing, if students can relate to the characters they will be all the more engaged.
We also will specifically be using these books to introduce themes, topics, ideas, and to have deep conversations about what is going on in our world at school and home. Books are one of the main windows into many subjects and themes in our classroom. New books help our students get excited about reading and to dive into new projects.
