Sharp brains need sharp pencils, and frequently students are afraid to ask to sharpen their pencils during instruction because it breaks the flow of instruction and stops their work, too. With our school-wide focus on AVID strategies, we are all using focused note-taking and graphic organizers to plan for larger assignments.
The individual sharpeners will not only allow students to work continually, it will allow those students who need a "brain break" to reset their thinking with the manual activity of sharpening their pencils. Students will use these pencils and sharpeners in both my English Language Arts and Math classes every day!
These simple basic supplies will really help with kids' learning when they can obtain them independently and sharpen them without interrupting work and/or instruction.
