My students will benefit tremendously from a new rug that is comfortable to sit on because we do a great deal of work together gathered on the floor. I feel like when we gather on the floor and sit in a smaller setting some of the best discussions arise. It is important for them to accurately hear what their peers are saying so that they can build off one another. During independent reading they also enjoy sitting on the floor but do not take advantage of this opportunity because it is so uncomfortable.
Currently, when we gather on the floor we sit on tile flooring so they tend to bounce around because they are uncomfortable and cannot fully focus. They love to hear me say "Let's gather together friends" meaning it is time to come together on the floor, but I usually hear at least one of them mention needing a rug. The write and wipe easel would also come in very handy because while we are discussing topics, I could jot down students ideas so they could visualize what their peers are saying.
I think this change in seating would be beneficial in so many ways to my students and would enhance their already eager minds to learn more.
