These VR cardboard viewers will enhance the learning experience of my geography and government students. Most notably, these viewers will allow my geography students to learn more by actually seeing and exploring our content. To begin, students will be able to explore the different concepts of geography. There are so many options! Whether landforms, the solar system, different countries or more, students will be immersed in the experience rather than reading a book and seeing small photos. Students will be able to actually see first hand all of these important concepts.
Rather than just learning about the stratosphere from a book, students can actually be standing in the stratosphere looking around as they use programs like Expeditions or Google Earth to enhance their learning. Similarly, students can relive important events throughout history by actually witnessing the events (or locations of events) through virtual reality. For example, students can learn about the Declaration of Independence by actually going on a virtual tour of Independence Hall! There are so many options to choose from! These cardboard viewers will give my students the chance to be more engaged in lessons than ever before! This 21st century tool will give all students the opportunity to learn like they never have before.
I have already begun collecting old smartphones from community members in order to ensure that all students have the chance to learn. I have requested enough to enable half of my class to do a VR activity while the other half does a different activity that reinforces the lesson. This enables me to not have to request as much money while still giving me the chance to successfully rotate between the 2 halves.
