I would love to grant my hospitalized students the ability to escape from their harsh reality through the power of literature. Classical stories and literature have the ability to enhance my students' educational experience while undergoing various medical treatments. I want to provide my students with quality literary experiences that will increase their interest and engagement during a challenging time. Books can serve as a distraction as well as a powerful teaching tool for all types of learners. Having the books available at my fingertips opens up a world of opportunity. For example, my students may be alone during the day or night and the books can bring them comfort.
Although my students are confined to their hospital room and cannot experience the joys of their community, books transport them to a world full of possibilities. Through literature, my students can take a literary field trip to enhance their imagination and love for reading. It is important to have a variety of genres to offer students so they can choose a book of high interest, as well as, offering books their peers are reading in the classroom.
