Many of my students are in wheelchairs. I would like to build several areas in the classroom where students can spend safe time out of their wheelchairs. One area must be sensory as some of my students are stimulated by sensory items which do not cause seizure. I'd like to have soft lights, music and items which students can touch. These include hand held lights and objects which they can grip. I am also building an area for motor skill strengthening. At the moment, the students require 100% support and hand over hand assistance. Puzzles not only teach the students academically, but they are able to strengthen their motor skills. Lastly, to encourage social skills, I am building a game center. My students will be able to interact with SDC students as well as general ed students and staff. I am looking for donations of simple board games including Connect 4, The Clack Game (magnetic game), matching games, Chutes and Ladders, Kerplunk, Bed Bugs, Melissa and Doug Fishing Game, and Melissa and Doug bowling game. For motor skills area: Fisher Price toys such as Baby's First Blocks, 100 Wooden Blocks and Rock-a-Stack.
