Students thrive when they have the opportunity to shape their learning through hands on experiences as they cooperate with friends. Flexible seating allows students the opportunity to work in a manner where they are not confined to a desk for the entire day. Although students thrive with routine, giving them the chance to select an area in which they can work with colleagues, enhances the learning of practical knowledge in an environment that mimics the real world and the importance of teamwork.
Lessons come alive when student receive the opportunities to manipulate, investigate, and create through carefully crafted opportunities that are based on cooperative learning. Research shows that flexible seating leads to physical activities that further lends itself to higher academic progress, better health, and improved behavior. Students that choose their own seating throughout the day are aware of their own learning behaviors and styles. In addition, they are given the chance to find what works best for them. We as educators work to help shape our learners into individuals that have a deeper desire to learn, think outside the box and become problem solvers.
