At the beginning of the school year, I did a reading interest inventory to learn more about my students as readers. My hope was to give each student a small pile of suggested books based upon their interests. However, I realized that my classroom library was inadequate for that task. I didn't have enough books at a variety of levels to help all of my students select an engaging text.
With these new books, students will be able to spend their reading block with books that engage and excite them. Reading about a topic that interests a students sparks joy and leads them to use the reading strategies we are working on. The more access to high quality, high-interest books, the better.
