In my classroom, I utilize proximity to maximize engagement during direct instruction. I do this by projecting my personal touch screen laptop wirelessly onto the screen. I am able to write on my screen to give the students correctly completed examples and to guide their note taking. I intentionally do this in a shared learning space without a teacher desk (I will either pick an empty student desk, or if I have a student disengaged I might even pull a chair up and teach from their desk). I have found that by utilizing proximity in this manner, I am most often able to achieve 100% engagement during a lesson. I had grand plans about utilizing the grant this year for other things, but my personal laptop that I use to teach in this manner is becoming dated, and it is starting to glitch and have problems. I would like to write a grant to replace my computer with a tablet that can be used with an active stylus and connect to my display wirelessly (Our iPads do not work with an active stylus such as the apple pencil, I tried). I would like to write the grant "Proximity Power" to purchase a tablet that should last at least 4 years. This grant should enhance the learning experience on a daily basis of approximately 300 students over the 4 year period.
