My students are Newcomers; students with limited or no English. They need opportunities to experience technology that incorporate sound and images in imaginative, exciting ways and that allow them to practice their English orally without thought to who might be listening.
Students should be able to use technology every day in inspiring ways that are intriguing, accessible, and fun.
By having new classroom headphones, students will be able to use the computers as needed, without interrupting or distracting peers or lessons. They will also be able to share their knowledge orally if they cannot do so in writing and to hear themselves read to see how successful they are in using English!
These new headphones will also have a secondary purpose that will reach over 100 students. Every year, our ELL students are assessed on ACCESS to determine their English language proficiency. For the speaking component, they need a noise canceling headphone with microphone. For the past number of years we have had to use a plastic adapter to make this possible. Every year a few more adapters break. These headphones will eliminate the need for the adaptor as they can be connected by a USB port.
