Advanced chemistry is a subject that usually requires very specific equipment. In the learning of properties of acidic/basic solutions and in the making of buffers it is a valuable tool to be able to see how the pH changes. Using pH paper is not as useful to see the subtle changes that can occur in buffer solutions. I can also make use of these for demonstration purposes in teaching my other classes the basics on how acids and bases work.
With these probes my students will be able to actively see how a solution's chemistry changes moment by moment during a titration. I have seen how students gain understanding with additional information on something that they cannot easily see otherwise. These probes can also find use in my neighboring environmental science classes as well as in AP BIology, not just my chemistry students.
