This is a special year for my students! They are participating in the Reader to Reader Program through Read, Think, Share where they will be reading and discussing, through daily dialogue in a secure online forum, thoughts about their books with college-age reading mentors. This program has proven outcomes, such as: deepening students comprehension of written text, increased desire to read for pleasure, improved ability to stick with a book to the end, improving written communication skills and an increased ability to take other perspectives. In order to get the most out of this program, students need daily access to computers and the online forum. As it stands now, opportunities for regular, consistent use of technology are currently limited. The key that makes this program so successful is the consistency of reading and communicating ideas that deepen their understanding. These six HP Chromebooks will provide students with the access they need to record and respond to their college mentors every day. The students’ daily use of the Chromebooks for the online forum will support, extend, and enhance their reading comprehension while having a special reading partner.
