Our students in Milwaukee Public Schools are looked at by many as disadvantaged. Economically, yes the majority our students are disadvantaged. However, the greatest hindrance I see is the lack of exposure to different views of the world.
Many of our students have never stepped foot outside of Milwaukee. I know that once they begin to be exposed to how big the world really is, it will have a dramatic effect on their desire and willingness to work hard now to secure their futures. I want them to know that there is more than the segregated streets of Milwaukee. A trip to the sprawling campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison would be just the beginning.
