This is my first year teaching. I started my teaching career with a magnificent 4th grade class. I started the school year with a vision of what I wanted for my students. One of those things is creating a reading corner for them.
My class is an intermediate classroom where most of my students lack language proficiency. As an English learner myself, I know from experience where I acquired the most language knowledge from, and that was through the pages of a thick book. My dream is to be able to create a library where students can easily have access to a variety of books.
The only opportunity my students have of reading a book is when they go to the school's library, some of them don't have a chance to go due to other extracurricular activities they have to attend during that time. It is highly important for me that all my students have the same opportunity, and can always spend some of their free time enjoying and learning from a book.
