We spend 30-40 minutes a day on independent reading where my students get the chance to choose a book of their liking and dive in. They grab pillows, cushions, and stuffed animals and curl up under desks, on fluffy carpets, or in their chairs to disappear into their reading. The more options they have, the more chances they have of finding books that meet their needs and interests, helping build a classroom of lifelong readers. Even my reluctant readers are desperately searching for options that will help them find their just-right reading journey and turn them from reluctant to engaged readers.
