My classroom was always considered the left over room. Most items were old, worn, stained, and dingy. When I took over the classroom, I strived to make it a cheery, welcoming, space where my students can feel comfortable and excited to be in. I have financed most of the classroom supplies up to this point, but the tables and chairs are out of my reach. We are requesting these round tables and chairs to replace rectangular ones that are literally 28 years old.
The circular style table that I am hoping to receive will enable my students to collaborate in a more affective way because they can see each other clearly and develop the social-emotional growth that is so important during Kindergarten.
Additionally, I reinforce their learning of common core standards with a play based approach. Right now, they have very little space to explore centers because our current tables are so bulky and the sharp corners get in the way. Finally, these tables will provide my students with more space to practice their writing. Right now, their elbows and supplies continually enter into their neighbors work space. The circle style, will give them more wiggle room.
