By starting a lending library with the preschool students, not only are we encouraging and developing a love for reading, we are also bringing a home- school connection. These children can bring the stories we read in school home to read with their families developing more language and vocabulary to help them Succeed. The more exposure to good literature the better language they will develop. The students I have are mainly ELL’s and have little to no language at all. I work with the classes by reading stories that have a lot of colorful pictures and lots of vocabulary to help them pick up and learn the English language. I work with them on letter/sound recognition and uses books is a great way for these little minds to get that exposure they need at this young age.
