My students do not learn in the traditional way. They need sensory integration daily! My students need to touch and feel things and to be given opportunities to explore educational materials differently than their peers.
These materials will enable me to calm my students so they can learn better. They will help them focus more easily instead of overstimulating them. Such things as cause and effect relationships are taught through sensory experiences.
Sensory rooms are extremely important in the development of students with autism and cognitive disabilities. My students struggle with self-regulation and often times regulate themselves by using sensory experiences. We use tools such as this Indoor Sensory LED Wall-Mounted Bubble Wall and Toy Spin Disc just as much as curriculum!
