My students are very intelligent little miniature universes. They are primarily Afro-American and Hispanic. They are located in Georgia and they attend a public school that is overcrowded. They are constantly challenging authority even though they are only eight or nine years old. However, most of the boys need mentors in their lives and I feel like encouraging them to write about their experiences will help them cope better with understanding how to cope with them in a positive fashion.
