I am our school's first ever full-time social worker. Our district social worker sees students just once every two weeks, which means her case load is limited and she is not regularly accessible. Since my position was added, I have launched several school-wide social-emotional learning initiatives and provided individual services to address social, behavioral and mental health challenges.
While it has been an incredible opportunity to build the school's social-emotional support system from scratch, it also means that I started with an empty classroom and no supplies. Using my own money, donations from other teachers and funds from our limited school budget, I have been able to pull together a social work office with the basic materials I need to service students. Your donations help enhance the social-emotional and therapeutic programming at our school so that all students have the support they need to succeed.
