Nearly every device students carry around, may it be a computer, a cell phone, a smartwatch, or even an earpiece, can and does in some way support music. Students walk down the hall with headphones in listening to their favorite song, maybe even humming along if no one is around.
Every student we come into contact with has a favorite song. I want to give my students the ability to learn to perform those favorite songs. Because of shows such as America's Got Talent and The Voice, students are able to see other kids their age up on stage performing for an audience of thousands of people. I hope to help each one of my students feel as powerful as those kid performers. I want to help students gain access to the tools necessary for performing music that sounds similar to the music they listen to for fun. Bringing ukuleles into the classroom will give my students the opportunity to do just that. With a ukulele in hand, every student will hold the resources necessary to become their own rock-star.
