The materials that I am requesting will benefit my students' learning in multiple ways. Everyday we have read aloud time during which we not only read a fun book, but have in depth discussions about its meaning. For many of my students, this is their first time reading independently or with a partner. So you can imagine how chaotic it can be maintaining their attention through the book, then trying to keep everyone settled as we discuss it. By having leveled books, students will not only be able to hear how a book at their level should be read, but go back and read it themselves. A document camera would provide the opportunity for them to see specific parts enlarged and then be able to quite literally "write in the book".
The donations to this project will jumpstart my students' understanding of the reading process and give them the opportunity to practice at their own level. It will also enhance their overall comprehension of fiction and nonfiction texts which is a main standard in kindergarten. Exposure to literature in multiple ways will benefit everyone in the class.
