At our school, we have about 600 amazing, intelligent, and responsible students. Our school acronym is R.O.A.R. Respect, Opportunity, Achievement, and Responsibility. Several of my students are trying to follow ROAR by improving their education. On Saturday morning, I and two other teachers, teach a group of 40 students who are two-six grade levels behind their peers. The students know they are behind, and know they can't catch up in a regular five day school week. They volunteer to walk to school on their precious weekend to better themselves. I meet them and try to feed them breakfast as most do not have that food at home. Spending money so they have full bellies means they have empty hands. I don't typically have any money left over to buy supplies. Right now, I get donations from teachers who also don't have much.
