Our classroom has a set of three student desk tops and two iPads. Each of our students spend about 30 minutes studying on programs such as Study Island, Education Galaxy, iStation, Starfall, epic!, and more. Though it is absolutely necessary for our students to have the program read aloud to them for better focus, it is very difficult to have eight students on different levels, working on different programs reading at the same time. We ask for each student to have their headphones, to understand the importance of responsibility.
Our special needs students often experience overstimulation, or an overwhelming feeling from too much going on around them while still trying to take in the information presented in front of them. Having headphones that cover our student's ears helps eliminate extra noise and stimulation from other students learning and exploring around them.
We also ask for an Echo Dot Kids Edition. With this device, students would be able to set their own reminders, for example if their specials time were changed to a different time, or set a timer to see how quickly they can complete their multiplication table. The Echo Dot also will also access materials from Audible, allowing students to have a choice of listening to stories and books while in library. The device will also provide us with relaxing music to work with in our stations.
