The students will use the supplies to create towers for strength, towers for height, rocking chairs, boats to support weight, swings, and many other fun and engaging projects!
Each project created will have hidden concepts in Mathematics, English, Engineering, Science, Art and even Technology. The students will be experiencing and learning the concepts through hands on modeling and experimenting.
For these projects, students will be assigned a mystery build. Teams will have to work together to create a plan, choose the appropriate materials, and finally formalize a budget. Students will follow their engineering designs and complete a lab sheet as they work. Once completed, the student teams will present their projects to the class practicing public speaking skills. The audience will practice soft skills in being a respectful and attentive audience.
Students will successfully meet the following objectives:
Solve problems involving perimeter, area, and volume.
Solve problems using measurement.
Solve problems using proportional relationships.
