As an elementary music teacher, I have to be very flexible. There are classrooms with access to keyboards and percussion instruments, but I also find myself in many situations where I only have a smart or whiteboard. Good teachers can always find ways to be creative, but students want hands-on experiences.
When kids have the opportunity to actually hold or see a real instrument, they are quickly infused with excitement and curiosity.
This is why I want a set of recorders I can take with me to any classroom. Soprano recorders are a great resource for teachers because they are so inexpensive. You can always find a way to get an entire set for a classroom. I want to share alto, tenor, and bass recorders with them for a full ensemble playing experience. Typically, these larger versions of the instrument are more expensive and difficult to attain. Having a full set would allow me to explore more diverse and serious repertoire. Students would have the opportunity to be a part of real Renaissance and Baroque recorder consorts. We would be able to practice ensemble playing, teamwork, and strengthen musical skills. Funding this project would assist me in sharing all types of wind instruments with underprivileged students who would deeply benefit from more exposure to the arts. Please help me bring authentic chamber music to my classrooms.
