I am implementing a Daily 5 structure during my language arts block. My students will be reading to self, reading to a partner, listening to stories, writing, and doing word work. During this time, I will be pulling small groups of readers to work on skills at their level. They love the opportunity to make choices, and they feel successful when given work at their 'just right' level. I am excited about my first few weeks doing Daily 5, but I can't wait to add listening to stories on an iPod so they can tuck into a comfy corner of the room and listen to a story. I also need more lower level books for my beginning readers. First grade is all about reading and this project will ensure all of my students head off to second grade as capable readers!
