Many of my students cannot supply all of the extra things needed in a modern classroom. We have moved beyond crayons, pencils and notebooks.
With headphones my students can begin to learn to use the technology of the 21st century. While my district has supplied 10 I-Pads for my classroom, we still need headphones to use the programs mandated by the district. Once connected, my students can learn to follow directions, listen to examples of fluent reading and take trips around the world with a math "game". Without headphones it is impossible to hear your own I-pad. Not to mention that it is disruptive to the other learning going on in the classroom.
The mini wipe boards are also needed in today's classroom. These provide immediate feedback to me of student work. Students can use to show math strategies and well as word building, sentence structure and so much more. With immediate feedback, I can then quickly determine who needs what in a follow up to the lesson.
