My school is located in a higher poverty section of Maryland. Many of my students live in multiple family homes and take care of themselves. Reading is not a priority for their families. I send books home with the students to borrow but they love the classroom magazines I have ordered in the past. The parents used to contribute money towards the magazines, but with the current economic downturn, the parents are struggling to buy food and clothing for the kids.
