A "life skill" is a skill that is a necessary, every day skill that a person needs to get through life. My students are required to have life skills lessons implemented everyday. Every year I develop a service project that will focus on developing the student's social and vocational skills. This year, with help from my students we researched the idea of implementing a coffee shop in our school. My students loved the idea and are very excited to begin this project.
Through this experience the students will develop various vocational, social, hygienic, and life skills. The students will improve their recognition of money when handling money. They will also learn how to sort the money correctly while in the money box. The students will learn how to operate and clean the equipment safely. Hygiene skills will be developed through hand washing and wearing gloves. Students will socialize while greeting and assisting customers. The students will learn how to work together as a team, interview for a job, implement the job duties, and problem solve. The students will learn how to clock in and out, as well as earn a paycheck weekly that can be redeemed later.
In the past, I have funded the projects along with my assistants. Getting these materials will allow my students to benefit from a hands-on learning experience. Ease of use and safety are why I decided to select the Keurigs. The coffee compartment organizer will help the student employee who is in charge of restocking products to do so in an organized manner. The cash and money box will be utilized to develop money recognition, counting, and addition/subtraction skills. Please help us achieve this goal to start our business!
