I want to help students foster a deeper sense of the importance of American citizenship by developing a better understanding of the
Constitution, US History, and Civil Rights through books. Students will spend one day a week reading. They will all be required to read about the Constitution and US History, but then get to pick historical novels to read.
By choosing graphic-novel style versions of US History and the Constitution this will assist students of all backgrounds and reading levels to gain a basic knowledge of the foundational ideas. This will give them the background they need to put the historical fiction into context. Finally, the novels will help the students put events into context and connect with the people who lived through these important events.
Once each book is read students will complete a project connecting the book to the Constitution, Civics and Current Events, making sure that each book read is meaningful and applicable to the every day experiences of our Central Florida Students.
