In first grade, a lot of our learning happens during whole-group, while students are sitting on the rug. Sitting on the rug, we read, count, sing, play and learn how to be a whole-body listener. This rug will give my students visual cues to help them better understand their personal space on the rug, preventing confusion, conflict, and unnecessary movement during key instructional time. Not only does our older, current rug provide no designated spaces, but it is also big and takes up a lot of space in our classroom! This smaller rug will also open more space for alternative seating and other learning spaces. This beautiful new rug is just what our classroom needs!
