My fifth grade Talented and Gifted students are beautifully diverse. I am working to make our classroom literature equally diverse.
My children need novels that not only give them windows into others' lives, but also mirrors that reflect their own lives and experiences.
I am asking for class sets of Ghost by Jason Reynolds and Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. Through these novels, my students will experience compelling stories that are rich with cultural and social connections. They will discuss and write about the characters' choices, challenges, and triumphs, and peel back the thematic layers.
Please consider supporting me in my quest to bring more diverse literature to my students. They need and deserve to see themselves in their books.
