This sensory table will help create a learning lab for students with exceptional disabilities to learn through play. These students will be given the opportunity to play through using kinetic sand and/or water to work with letters, shapes, and numbers. My classroom has students with severe/profound disabilities. Subjects like language arts, math and science are not easily taught through reading and paper and pencil tasks. My students have to use their hands in order to engage with academic material. Most of my students are functioning between an 24-32 month intellectual level. My students learn best through play and are able to engage with the world around them when I create lessons that engage all five senses. The water/sand table will be used to create a sensory lab where students can demonstrate what they have learned through actively doing. When we have worked on letters, students will be able to search for letters and objects that begin with those letters to demonstrate matching to master a task. Please help me create a sensory lab to engage all of my unique learners.
