I am a first year Special Day Class teacher. I am starting out with everything I have inherited in my classroom which consists of your typical desks and four legged chairs. My kids have a really hard time sitting in these chairs all day long and I would love to have a variety of seating both suitable for their desks, tables, and the floor. I already have acquired a table set of wobble stools but would love to have multiple different options for the kids to choose from.
The majority of the students I support have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) which means they have a lot of sensory needs. My class of ten boys are very wiggly! Staying seated at their desk all day really just is not feasible. They love to sit on the carpet or in the calm down corner while reading or doing independent work but have trouble staying in their own space. The set of 4 recliner chairs will allow them to sit on the floor while remaining in their own personal space bubbles. The stackable black chairs will also give students an option to sit at the small group tables, while still taking a break from sitting on the four legged chairs.
Being a first year teacher I am also starting out with a very small library. All the books I have inherited are great, however, they are quite outdated and are not quite catching student interest. I would love to vamp up my classroom library with some of the more popular grade level approved books! This will encourage students to want to read during our silent reading times.
The last items I am requesting are just basic classroom necessities. With flu season approaching I want to be prepared for the season with ample supplies!
