W.D. Hall Elementary School currently does not have a sensory room where students can go when they are over-stimulated. This has become increasingly more important to create as the school's population has had an increase in students being serviced with autism over the past several years.
When our students are over-stimulated, they are not able to access the general education curriculum, which in turn impedes their learning. Therefore, having a sensory room with items such as a compression boat lounger, trampoline, stepping stones, pin art, medicine ball, vibrating tube, rainstick, vibrating pillow, projector and music player, vibrating cushion, calming lamp, putty, plush toys, kinetic sand, and water beads, will provide students a safe, calm, environment where they can self-regulate and regain control of their emotions before returning back to their classrooms for learning. I feel confident that a sensory room would help ensure success for my students.
