Learning skills related to micro-controllers and coding can situate young people for their future careers. Latino and female students are largely underrepresented in science and engineering fields, especially computer science. My school has 87% Hispanic students and 100% are on free and reduced lunch
The major goal for this project is to plant seeds that will excite my students from this Title 1 school about careers in STEM-related fields. To help meet this goal, I am requesting a Makey-Makey STEM Pack-Classroom Invention Literacy Kit, and two each of the Arduino Starter Kit and the micro:bit Sensor Starter Kit.
These kits will help introduce my students to robotics, coding, electronics, and software; and will allow them to have first-hand experiences working with the types of hardware that many engineers use. Your donation will allow students to program real hardware that they can use to create interactive physical computing projects and solve authentic problems.
