Initially, these talk buttons be used in the classroom to build an understanding of cause and effect as related to communicative intent. The different phrases are engaging and can be incorporated in many classroom lessons. Currently, I have just one set of these buttons that my students must share. As my students become more proficient and independent, a set of talk buttons will travel to and from school with them so they will be able to express themselves not just at school, but at home and in their community as well.
