As part of our curriculum we will learn how different factors affect the growth of organisms. The microscopic world provides many opportunities to safely experiment with changing environmental factors and then watching the outcome. This is because they can reproduce so quickly. However, to do this students need access to microscopes that are powerful enough to observe things as small as bacteria.
Students learn so much more when they can do science not just read about it. One experiment we will do involves collecting dead leaves and other plant material and observing how changing factors such as temperature, oxygen levels and light levels affects what is growing on them.
