To effectively meet the needs and different learning styles of my students I teach many concepts using guided lessons. We currently use guided math workshop, writer's workshop and Daily 5 during reading. The majority of my differentiated instruction is done by working with groups of 3-5 students. Our current small group table is an older trapezoid type that isn't very sturdy, if one student moves around or needs to erase the entire table wobbles, which causes disruptions to the learning the process. It's also too small for all students to fit comfortably.
This project will benefit my students by providing a comfortable place to learn, and give them the space they need to work more effectively during our small groups. Students also like to utilize this table for independent work if I'm not with a group. I have seen the many benefits of small group instruction, and this kidney table will allow us to create the ideal small group experience for our classroom learning environment.
