My students are awesome. No matter what challenges they have at home, they come in every morning with a smile on their face and put so much effort in their learning. Many of them have parents who work two jobs to make ends meet. This leaves little ones at the care of teen siblings. All my students qualify for free/reduced lunch. My school is not making academic yearly progress. Students are not meeting the goals in reading. Staff was significantly reduced. There is not any money that can be put into a listening center for my classroom. I truly believe that having students listen to proper pronunciation of books and being read to at this center will improve their reading fluency. I work closely with the teachers at my school and we all work very long hours to create materials and brainstorm ways to get our students to succeed. I really need materials in the classroom and more books in their little hands.
