Students continue to struggle with anxiety and depression as we all navigate the COVID 19 pandemic. All of our classrooms have a calm down corners where learners can take a break. Everyone will have the opportunity to use these items provided to self soothe, release anger, and work through stress related to the ups and downs of the unknown.
Using these tools allows for students to be proactive in learning specifically about two of the social emotional competencies; self-awareness and self-management. We know that students can't concentrate on learning if they aren't using their prefrontal cortex or reasoning part of their brains.
