I will use this novel to teach reading to 6th grade ELL students second semester. I will introduce metaphors, similes, characterization, plot structure, mood, and so on throughout this novel study. Furthermore, studies have shown that using engaging rich literature to teach reading helps students connect more to what they are reading which results in increased reading scores.
Reading novels gets my students excited and engaged in deep thinking about reading comprehension strategies. Everyone loves a good story and a good novel can be the key to opening the door to understanding. I love making an impact on my students' learning and I hope you will too!
