Have you ever sat in an uncomfortable seat, and the only thing you can think of is, "When can I get up!"? This is what goes through the mind of a typical 4th grader on a daily basis. It is a known fact that if you are uncomfortable your brain starts to shut off, and for a student, that means important information is not being retained. Studies show, not only does flexible seating create a comfortable atmosphere, but it also maximizes the amount of learning. By giving students choices about their physical classroom space, it teaches them higher-order thinking skills. Implementing flexible seating like wobble chairs allows me to change the learning environment, making it less clinical and more student-friendly.
